Perched on one of South Mumbai's most coveted addresses, 17 Altamount is a thoughtful renovation that transforms a once dark and compartmentalised apartment into a light-filled home defined by breathtaking views of the Arabian Sea and the city's Coastal Road.
The design focused on reconnecting the interiors with their extraordinary surroundings. By opening up the existing layout, widening the balcony, and extending the living space, the home was reimagined to maximise natural light and create a seamless dialogue between indoors and outdoors.
Working within a 40-year-old building presented structural challenges, including existing beams and low ceiling heights. Rather than concealing these limitations, the design embraces them through a restrained palette of soft neutrals, natural materials, and refined detailing, creating a calm, spacious, and timeless environment.
The original four-and-a-half-bedroom apartment was reconfigured into three generous bedrooms with expansive bathrooms, prioritising openness, comfort, and functionality. An L-shaped living and dining area now forms the heart of the home, flooded with daylight from both the east and west, making it equally suited for entertaining and everyday family life.
17 Altamount is a celebration of intelligent renovation—demonstrating how thoughtful planning, restrained materiality, and a deep understanding of context can transform an existing home into a contemporary sanctuary that feels effortless, elegant, and deeply connected to its surroundings.
